EXTENDING THE ONYX LINE
Onyx is a premier line of cardio equipment under the Matrix Fitness brand at Johnson Health Tech. The goal of this project is to develop conceptual designs for expanding this line of products, starting with the addition of a rowing machine.

ROWING MACHINES
Popular cardio machine that uses both the upper and lower body throughout the motion. Next prospective addition to the Onyx line.
ROWING EXERCISE
Rowing engages the whole body in a low-impact exercise. Key parts of the exercise are: leg push, body hinge, and arm pull.
HANDLE ERGONOMICS
The best posture for rowing is to have hands equally spaced shoulder width apart. The initial focus of this project was to explore best forms for wrist position.
Initial focus on exploring a wide variety of forms
For both the handle and the overall rowing machine, the brainstorming phase involved abstracting from the current profile of a rowing machine. Details and parting lines draw to design cues from the current Onyx line.
Final direction incorporates parallel linear forms seen throughout Onyx
Next step is CAD development to refine final details and features.
